Elie Saab

Elie Saab (born July 4, 1964 in Beirut ) is a Lebanese fashion designer .

Life

Born to Maronite parents, Saab showed an interest in fashion and sewing clothes at the age of nine. He spent a lot of time with patterns and sketch drawings for tablecloths and curtains.

In 1981 Saab moved to Paris to study fashion. In 1982 he returned to Beirut and founded his first studio with ten workers. The name of the label was "Beirut-based fashion". Saab's main studio is in Lebanon, a state to which he feels very attached. He also has studios in Milan and Paris.

In 1997 Saab became the first non- Italian designer to be a member of the Italian Camera Nazionale della Moda (National Chamber of Fashion). In the same year Saab presented its first collection outside of Lebanon in Rome .

In 1998 Saab founded a “ ready-to-wear ” collection in Milan and started a fashion show in Monaco , which Princess Stéphanie of Monaco visited. This collection has been sold worldwide in cities such as Paris, London , Madrid , Moscow , Los Angeles , New York City and Hong Kong .

Saab became known worldwide in 2002 when Halle Berry wore a dress made by Elie Saab to the Oscars , in which she won the Best Actress Award . Since then, Elie Saab's dresses have been popular with various stars; Among other things, Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden wore a dress by the designer at a party on the eve of her wedding.

In July 2003, Saab presented its haute couture collection in Paris as an official member of the prestigious Chambre Syndicale . The response from the press and designers was overwhelming. Two years later, in October 2005, Saab launched its expanded ready-to-wear collection on the Paris runway and has since had its second home in Paris.

Saab opened its first boutique in 2005 and relocated its headquarters to the heart of Beirut, downtown. The five-story modern building houses his studio, couture salon, accessories department and the studio for the ready-to-wear collection.
