Slava Grigoryan
Slava Grigoryan (born January 21, 1976 in the Kazakh SSR ) is an Australian guitarist of Kazakh origin.
Life
Slava Grigoryan was born as the son of the violinists Eduard and Irina Grigoryan in the Kazakh SSR . He has a younger brother, Leonard Grigoryan, who is also a musician. The Armenian family immigrated to Australia during his childhood. Eduard Grigoryan gave his sons guitar lessons at an early age. At the age of 12, Slava Grigoryan played the instrument professionally. He was engaged in classical music and studied at the Victorian College of the Arts. In 1993 he won the Tokyo International Classical Guitar Competition. Then he was able to sign a record deal with Sony . In 1996 his debut album Spirit of Spain was released , on which he interpreted pieces by Isaac Albéniz , Heitor Villa-Lobos , Chick Corea and Alonso Mudarra with the guitar. Two more albums at Sony followed.
Slava Grigoryan later switched to the ABC Classics label , where he also released several albums, starting in 2002 with Sonatas & Fantasies . He also released the album Play (2003) with his brother , on which they played suites for two guitars by Astor Piazzolla and Radamés Gnattali . Her father also contributed two compositions. Another collaboration between the brothers was the long player Baroque Guitar Concertos (2008) with pieces by Antonio Vivaldi , Georg Friedrich Händel , Silvius Leopold Weiss and Johann Friedrich Fasch , in which they are accompanied by the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra. Slava Grigoryan gave concerts regularly, as a soloist, with orchestral accompaniment and with his brother. He also worked several times with the jazz guitarists Ralph Towner and Wolfgang Muthspiel . In 2009 they were nominated for the Amadeus Austrian Music Award in the category Album of the Year for their album From a Dream .
