The Football League First Division 2002/03 was the eleventh season of the Football League First Division as only the second highest English football league and 100th second division season overall. It started on August 10, 2002 with the first game day and ended on May 26, 2003 with the playoff final.

The championship was won by Portsmouth FC , which at the same time secured participation in the 2003/04 Premier League season . Behind runners-up Leicester City , Wolverhampton Wanderers also rose as playoff winners in the Premier League. Sheffield Wednesday , Brighton & Hove Albion and Grimsby Town had to relegate to the Football League Second Division .
