Marlon Anderson Harewood (born August 25, 1979 in Hampstead ) is an English professional footballer . The striker is currently under contract with Barnsley FC .

Player career

Nottingham Forest (1996-2003)

Marlon Harewood began his professional career at Nottingham Forest . In 1998 he was awarded to the Finnish top club Haka Valkeakoski , with whom he won the Finnish championship in 1998 . In the Premier League 1998/99 he made his breakthrough at Forest and played twenty-three league games (one goal). However, the season ended with the team's relegation from the first division. After two unsuccessful years as a regular under coach David Platt , Harewood (28 games / 11 goals) experienced a significant increase in performance in the 2001/02 season . This development continued in the Football League First Division 2002/03 , twenty goals in forty-six league games contributed significantly to the team's good season. Forest moved into sixth in the first play-off round, but failed there at Sheffield United . After a very successful start in 2003/04 with twelve goals in nineteen games, Harewood left Nottingham .

West Ham United (2003-2007)

On November 25, 2003 Harewood moved to East London for 500,000 pounds, to West Ham United and scored thirteen goals by the end of the First Division 2003/04 . He met a total of twenty-five times this season and only had to admit defeat to Andy Johnson (27 goals for Crystal Palace). West Ham moved into fourth in the first play-off round, prevailed against Ipswich Town and only failed in the final 1-0 to Crystal Palace . In his second season for West Ham he made 24 goals in all competitions (17 league goals) and helped the "Hammers" to rise to the Premier League , which was achieved by winning the play-off final against Preston North End .

In the 2005/06 Premier League , Harewood scored fourteen goals for West Ham. This made him the fourth-best Englishman in the list of goalscorers behind Frank Lampard , Darren Bent and Wayne Rooney . Harewood was particularly famous for the first Premier League hat-trick of the 2005/06 season, which he scored against Aston Villa, as well as for his powerful goal in the semi-finals of the FA Cup 2005/06 against Middlesbrough FC , which won the "Hammers" entry secured in the FA Cup final. After a 2-0 or 3-2 lead, West Ham conceded Steven Gerrard's equalizer in the 91st minute and subsequently lost the penalty shoot-out to Liverpool . The 2006/07 Premier League was less successful for him and the early first round of the 2006/07 UEFA Cup was a disappointment.

Aston Villa (2007-2010)

For the 2007/08 Premier League he moved to the Aston Villa team coached by Martin O'Neill . He signed a three-year contract. In his first year in Birmingham , he scored only five league goals in twenty-three games. After being rarely considered by O'Neill in 2008/09 and scoring his only goal for Villa that season against Litex Lovetsch in the 2008/09 UEFA Cup , he moved on March 23, 2009 to the end of the 2008 season / 09 on loan to the later second division champions Wolverhampton Wanderers .

Without being used again for Aston Villa, Harewood moved on September 24, 2009 to the turn of the year again on loan to first division relegated Newcastle United and scored five league goals in fifteen games. Harewood did not play in Birmingham in the following years - also due to injuries. There was also no subsequent contract extension.

Blackpool FC (2010-2011)

On August 11, 2010 Harewood moved to the Premier League promoted Blackpool FC , where he signed a contract until the end of June 2012. In Blackpool he got off to an excellent start in the 2010/11 Premier League when he scored two goals on matchday one in a 4-0 away win at Wigan Athletic .

After a temporary loan deal to the second division FC Barnsley , Harewood decided to move to the Chinese second division Changsha Ginde after the 2011/12 season . With his new team, he reached second place and thus the direct return to the Chinese Super League .

Nottingham Forest and Barnsley FC (2012-)

After he had already trained with the team in the weeks before, Harewood signed a contract valid from January 1, 2012 until the end of the season with Nottingham Forest . After his contract expired, he moved to Barnsley FC on August 14, 2012 .
