The Veikkausliiga 1998 was the ninth season of the Finnish top division in men's football under this name and the 68th season since its inception in 1930.
The FC Haka of Valkeakoski the championship took. The newcomer from the second division and reigning cup winner had three points ahead of Vaasan PS , who won the runner-up for the second time in a row. After 1960 , 1962 , 1965 , 1977 and 1995 it was the sixth Finnish championship for the team from Pirkanmaa .
In the final of the Finnish Football Cup , last year's champions HJK Helsinki won 3-2 over city rivals PK-35 Helsinki . In Helsinki Olympic Stadium around 5,000 people watched that game.
HJK Helsinki also won the Finnish league cup . Against FF Jaro it went 1-1 after regular time and extra time in the penalty shootout. In this, HJK was ahead with 7: 6 and won the league cup for the fourth time in the fifth finals.
