The Mestaruussarja 1988 was the 58th season of the Finnish football championship since its introduction in 1930. It was played among twelve teams in a combined system of a main round with round trip and a subsequent championship or relegation round. Finnish champion was defending champion HJK Helsinki ahead of Kuusysi Lahti .
