Mikkelin Palloilijat ( MP for short ) is a Finnish sports club from the city of Mikkeli .
The association was founded in 1929. The club experienced its most successful years around 1970, when the bandy team became champions and the soccer team won the national cup competition twice.
Soccer
In 1939, Mikkeli played for one season in the second highest Finnish division. From 1960 onwards, MP played second class again, and in 1965 they were promoted to the top division for the first time. In 1970 the footballers were runner-up. With a 4-1 after extra time against Lahden Reipas , Mikkeli also won the Finnish Football Cup that year, which was defended a year later by a 4-1 win over Vaasan Sport . After relegation in 1977 MP was temporarily to an elevator team, before the team from 1986 to 1996 again played first-class without interruption. During this time Mikkeli was again Finnish runner-up in 1991. After relegation in 1996, Mikkeli also rose from the second-rate Ykkönen in 2001. From 2004 to 2006 and again in 2010, Mikkeli then played in the second division. In 2015 MP Mikkeli will play again at Ykkönen .
