The Veikkausliiga 1990 was the first season of the Finnish top division in men's football under this name and the 60th season since its introduction in 1930. The Veikkausliiga replaced the Mestaruussarja as the top division.

Champion became HJK Helsinki . The blue-whites from the capital prevailed in the final of the play-offs against the winner of the main round Kuusysi Lahti in two games.

The twelve teams initially competed against each other twice on 22 match days. The best eight teams then played out the champions in the knockout system . The bottom of the table was relegated directly, the penultimate had to be relegated.
