The Veikkausliiga 1999 was the tenth season of the Finnish top division in men's football under this name and the 69th season since its inception in 1930.
Twelve teams played for the Finnish championship in 1999. The number of teams had been increased by two, bringing the number of games each team had to play in the main round to 22. At the end of the main round, the best eight teams qualified for the championship round.
Defending champion Haka Valkeakoski and the HJK Helsinki were way ahead of the rest of the competition and played the championship in the last seven games of the championship round. In the end, FC Haka had the lead with two points and secured the Finnish championship for the seventh time. The last four teams in the main round competed twice against each other in a relegation round. In this round, however, there were no more changes in the placement and TPV Tampere had to start again in the second division . The FC Lahti and Vaasan PS had to prove in the relegation: Both clubs were against their opponents FF Jaro or Atlantis Helsinki enforce scarce and thus also played in 2000 in the Veikkausliiga.
In the final of the Finnish Football Cup there was a duel between the second division club FF Jaro and FC Jokerit , which had received the first division license from the PK-35 Helsinki in 1999 and took its place in the Veikkausliiga. FF Jaro from Jakobstad in western Finland (Pietarsaari in Finnish) won 2-1.
In the sixth edition of the Finnish League Cup, HJK Helsinki did not qualify for the final for the first time. Instead, the Vaasan PS met KTP Kotka at the final in Lahti . Vaasa won 3-0.
