The FC Jazz is a football club from the city of Pori in Finland , in an internationally renowned Jazz Festival. The club rose in 2013 to the second-rate Ykkönen . From 1984 to 1988 and between 1991 and 2004 the FC Jazz played first class and won the Finnish championship twice.

history

The club was founded in 1934 under the name Porin Pallo-Toverit , often abbreviated to PPT . PPT joined the workers' sports association TUL , in whose leagues he played until the union of the game operations of the Finnish Football Association with that of the TUL after the war. For years the club played in the second division, until 1983 for the first time the promotion to the Mestaruussarja , as the top Finnish league was called at the time, succeeded. In 1988 they got down again, but managed to get up again after two years. In 1991 the club was renamed FC Jazz Pori after the Pori Jazz jazz festival .

The first Finnish championship was won by FC Jazz in 1993. Another title followed in 1996. Although Pori only finished second behind FF Jaro Jakobstad after the main round , the club won first place after five games in the championship round. In 1995 they were also in the final of the Finnish Cup, but lost to MyPa Anjalankoski 0-1.

In 2004 the club got serious financial problems. There were high tax debts and other taxes could not be paid. In terms of sport, too, things went downhill and the club finished the season in 13th place on the relegation spot. After a 0: 1 and a 2: 2 against IFK Mariehamn in the relegation, Pori was relegated. Before the start of the 2005 season, the club came to an end due to its financial problems. The club then started in 2006 with its former junior team in the sixth division. From 2009 the FC Jazz played third class. In 2013 they made it to the quarter-finals of the Finnish Football Cup and, after a 2-2 and a 2-0 relegation over Ekenäs IF, they were promoted to the second division.
