Toni Kallio (born August 9, 1978 in Tampere ) is a former Finnish football player who was mostly used as a full -back, but also played in central defense.

Career

The defensive player began his active career in his Finnish homeland at Tampere PV , where he was active from 1996 to 1999 and during this time was also on loan at FC Jazz Pori . Then Kallio signed with HJK Helsinki . There he made his breakthrough and the Finn was a permanent member of the capital club. In August 2004, the defender joined the Norwegian club Molde FK , with whom he won the Norwegian cup competition the following year in the final against Lillestrøm SK . In February 2007, Kallio was signed by the Bern city ​​club BSC Young Boys and was subsequently involved with the team in the Axpo Super League . After 21 appearances and two goals for the Young Boys in the top Swiss league, the full-back left the club in January 2008 and signed with Fulham .

Subsequently, however, the Finnish international spent most of his time in London on the bench and only made four appearances in the Premier League by the end of the 2009/10 season . In November 2009 the first loan period took place at the second division club Sheffield United . Although he did not make it into the starting eleven there, Kallio was transferred to Sheffield again on loan in early February 2010. At the end of the season, his expiring contract with Fulham was not extended. Kallio returned to Finland in 2011 and retired from Ilves Tampere in 2012 .

For the Finnish national team , he played 49 games and scored 2 goals.
