The Mestaruussarja 1949 was the 19th season of the Finnish football championship since its introduction in 1930. It was played among twelve teams from May 1 to October 30.

Champion Turku PS defending champions Vaasan PS . Since the league was reduced by two clubs for the following season, four teams were relegated.
