Turun Toverite

Turun Toverit ( German Turku comrades / comrades; abbreviated TuTo ) is a Finnish sports club from the southwestern Finnish city of Turku . It was founded on October 20, 1929 . The club is best known for its ice hockey department, which currently plays under the name TuTo Hockey in the second highest league, the Mestis .

In the 1970s, the two city rivals TPS and TuTo played in the top division. In 1973 both teams moved to the Kupittaan jäähalli , in which TuTo still plays today with brief interruptions. TPS has been playing in the much larger Turkuhalli since 1990 .

Three TuTo players have already played at the Olympics: Urpo Ylönen in 1964 and 1968, Karl Johansson in 1968 and Seppo Lindström in 1968 and 1972.

Soccer

In 1947 the club became Finnish runners-up. As a representative of the workers' sports association TUL , TuTo took part in the final round of the championship and had to admit defeat to Helsingfors IFK 2: 3 in a tight playoff game . Currently (as of 2010) the club plays in the Finnish third division.

In 1952, Olavi Laaksonen and Jorma Vaihela, two TuTo players, took part in the Olympic football tournament for Finland. Other national players who played for TuTo were Tommy Lindholm , Turkka Sundbäck , Rainer Forss , Turkka Tamminen , Armas Niemi and Allan Möller .

Several successful track and field athletes emerged from the club: The two-time Olympians Voitto Hellstén and Pentti Rekola as well as the hurdler Jussi Rintamäki were members of the TuTo.

Other departments

In addition to ice hockey , football and athletics , the club also offers wrestling , table tennis , basketball , gymnastics , volleyball and bowling .
