Jussi Rintamäki

Jussi Antero Rintamäki (born July 4, 1935 in Ilmajoki ) is a former Finnish athlete . The sprinter celebrated his greatest successes in the 400 meter hurdles .

Rintamäki, who initially belonged to the clubs Ilves and Kisailjat in his hometown of Ilmajoki in western Finland , was sent to the European Championships in Stockholm in 1958 as a member of the 4 x 400 meter relay . The season did not survive the preliminary round. Rintamäki did not reach the final in the hurdles either. In 1960 Rintamäki became Finnish 400-meter running champion and was appointed to the Olympic team for Rome . In Rome he started the 400 meter hurdles competition and made it to the final. There he finally reached fifth place in the victory of the American Glenn Davis . In 1962 he took part in the European Championships for the second time. He was used in Belgrade both over the 400 meter hurdles and with the 4 x 400 meter relay . In the hurdles he was able to reach the final and finally came fourth, behind the Italian Salvatore Morale , who set a new world record with 49.2 seconds, and the two Germans Jörg Neumann and Helmut Janz . With his new club Turun Toverit , for which he started after a brief membership at Vaasan Vasama , he had won a total of seven Finnish championship titles in relay races.

When he competed, Rintamäki was 1.75 m tall and weighed 68 kg.
