The Veikkausliiga 2000 was the eleventh season of the top Finnish division in men's football under this name and the 70th season since its introduction in 1930. It began on April 29 and ended on October 28, 2000.
It was not until the last match day that FC Haka Valkeakoski secured the title for the eighth time in the club's history and for the third time in a row with a 4-0 win over relegated KTP Kotka .
In the final of the Finnish Football Cup , HJK Helsinki won 1-0 against KTP Kotka. As in the previous year, Vaasan PS won the Finnish League Cup with a 2-1 win over the Helsinki club FC Jokerit . The final was held in Hanko .

In contrast to the previous year, the championship was played in a triple round. Each team played 33 games this season. The bottom of the table was relegated directly, the penultimate had to face the relegation .
