Darren Ashley Bent (born February 6, 1984 in Tooting , London ) is an English football player . Bent has been with Derby County since June 2015 , having previously been loaned there from Aston Villa .
Career
Ipswich Town
Bent started his career in the youth department of Ipswich Town . He made his professional debut on November 1, 2001 against Helsingborgs IF in the UEFA Cup . He scored his first goal on November 27, 2001 in the 4-1 loss to Newcastle United . He scored the first league goal on April 24, 2002 in a 1-0 win against Middlesbrough FC . In February 2003 he made his international debut for the English U-21 team against Italy. He finished the 2003/04 season with 18 goals, the 2004/05 season with 19 goals and was the top scorer.
Charlton Athletic
In the summer of 2005, Bent then moved to Charlton Athletic for £ 2.5million after Ipswich Town narrowly missed promotion for the third time in a row. In his first game for Charlton, he scored two goals against Sunderland AFC . He was also player of the month for August. At the end of the season, he was the league's third top scorer and was voted Charlton Athletic's best player.
Tottenham Hotspur
In the summer of 2007, Bent moved to the Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur for around 24.5 million euros . That was the highest sum the Spurs had ever spent on a player. In his second and last season at Tottenham, he was the team's top scorer with 25 goals in 43 games.
Sunderland AFC
After Tottenham strengthened with Peter Crouch in July 2009 , Bent moved to Sunderland AFC for ten million pounds , which in turn made him the most expensive player in the history of his club; in addition, the sum could increase to 16.5 million pounds if successful. Already on his debut on August 15, 2009, he scored the first goal for the "Black Cats" to win 1-0 away against Bolton Wanderers . With eight goals in the first nine league games, he was immediately a fixture at the side of Kenwyne Jones in the attacking game of Sunderland AFC.
Aston Villa
On January 18, 2011 Darren Bent signed a four and a half year contract with Aston Villa . Aston Villa transferred a transfer fee of £ 18 million for him, which can be increased to £ 24 million through bonus payments. This makes Bent once again the most expensive purchase in the history of the Premier League club. Bent played his first game for Villa on January 22, 2011 in a 1-0 win over Manchester City over the full 90 minutes. With his winning goal (18th minute) Bent was the "match winner" in his first game and scored three important points with his team against relegation.
Fulham FC
For the 2013/14 season , Bent moved to Fulham on loan .
Return to Aston Villa and emergency loan
For the 2014/15 season Bent returned to Aston Villa after relegation with Fulham FC. After seven appearances in the Premier League, in which Bent had not succeeded, he moved to the second division club Brighton & Hove Albion for one month on November 26, 2014 on an emergency loan .
Derby County
In January 2015, Derby County announced the signing of Bent. He moved to the second division on loan until the end of the season, for whom he scored 10 goals in 15 league games. In June 2015, Bent was then firmly committed to the club known as Rams .
National team
Bent was first called up on August 17, 2005 in the friendly against Denmark in the national team. He was also called to the World Cup qualifiers against Wales and Northern Ireland , but not used. He made his debut on March 1, 2006 at the home game against Uruguay . For the 2006 World Cup he was not considered. So he ended 2006 with only two games and no goal.
