The Football League Second Division 1908/09 was the 17th season of the Football League Second Division as the second highest English football league . Second division champions were the Bolton Wanderers and also the second-placed Tottenham Hotspur rose to the Football League First Division . For the two promoted teams in the following second division season 1909/10, the two first division clubs Manchester City and Leicester Fosse, which are ranked in the table below, took their places.

Chesterfield FC had to relegate from the Second Division . In addition, Stockport County and Blackpool FC were worried about staying in the class, but then received enough votes in the re-election process of the league association to be allowed to participate again in the Second Division in the following 1909/10 season. The place of FC Chesterfield took in the following season the newly promoted Lincoln City FC .
