Chikinki: Rupert Browne, Steve Bond, Ed East, Trevor Wensely, Boris Exton

Chikinki is a British band from Bristol , who moved to London in 2006 and has been mainly in Germany since 2010 and resides in Berlin (singer Rupert Browne studied German, among other things). The band was formed in 1996 by students from Bristol University. Her style is described as electronic pop with influences from psychedelic and progressive rock . The proper name is fun without a meaningful background.

occupation

  • Rupert Browne (vocals)
  • Ed East (lead guitar)
  • Steve Bond (drums)
  • Trevor Wensely (synthesizer / keyboards)
  • Boris Exton (synthesizer / keyboards)

history

The band initially consisted of six members. The line-up was briefly supplemented by a bass player. After graduating, Luke left the band, which has since played in a five-man cast. First they signed a contract with the local label Sink . Then they went to the major sub-label Island Records . After Iceland terminated the contract, they signed with the Berlin independent label Kitty-Yo . The latter helped boost the band's popularity in continental Europe.

style

In the beginning their music was very funky , but it developed more and more towards electronic and pop. The sound of the band is determined by the guitars as well as by both keyboards, which act as melody (Extons Casio) and rhythm section (Wesley) and thereby replace the bassist. Radio 1 (Berlin-Brandenburg) turned some of their songs into regional catchy tunes, like Hello , You Said and Please Please . At times, Browne's stage show is somewhat reminiscent of the macho gesture of the front men of the blues-oriented British bands of the 1960s and 1970s, such as Robert Plant or Bon Scott , but is occasionally broken by theatricality and friendly relaxation.

Trevor Wesley and Boris Exton hold degrees in music. All band members write songs.
