The structure of the band is different. There are seven of The Hidden Cameras at one concert and seventeen at the next. In addition, there are often female and male stripping gogo dancers who encourage the audience to sing along. According to Joel Gibb, they should "dance away the inhibitions that otherwise prevail at indie concerts, where people just stand around, smoke cigarettes and gossip about the few people who try to dance." Sometimes Gibb also performs his pieces solo . The band first became very popular in Canada, especially in and around Toronto, primarily through their live performances.

Joel Gibb himself once referred to her music as "Gay Church Folk Music".
