Turbostaat is a German-speaking punk rock band from Flensburg .

history

The band Turbostaat emerged in January 1999 from various less noticed punk bands (namely Exil , Zack Ahoi and Unabomber ). After the band members moved from Husum to Flensburg , the album Flamingo was released on the Schiffen label in 2001 , as was the successor Schwan in 2003 .

Turbostaat played among other things in the opening act of the friendly band Beatsteaks . Singer Jan Windmeier worked with them for the cover of the Fu Manchu song Hell on Wheels , which they called Frieda und die Bomben and provided with their own German lyrics. This song was featured on the Beatsteaks single for Hello Joe (2004).

In May 2004 Turbostaat played concerts in Norway , Sweden and Finland as part of a Scandinavian tour .

At the end of 2006 Turbostaat switched to the newly founded label Same Same But Different and recorded a new album there at the end of March 2007 with the name Vormann Leiss , which was released on August 17th of the same year. In 2007 Turbostaat were represented for the first time at Rock am Ring and in November and December 2007 the support act at some Beatsteaks concerts. They also went on stage several times with The Gaslight Anthem . In February 2008 the band announced via MySpace that they were back in the studio. At the Highfield Festival 2009, the new album was announced for early 2010. They also played the new songs Surt + Tyrann and Strandgut at the festivals in the summer . In 2010, in addition to a tour of Germany, the official release date of the fourth studio album Das Island Manöver , April 9, was confirmed. Furthermore, the song Surt + Tyrann was offered for free download on the band's website.

In early 2012, the band announced the first work on their fifth album Stadt der Angst , which was released on April 5, 2013 on the Hamburg record label Clouds Hill . The song Sohnemann Heinz has been available for free download on the band's website since February 28th .

On the occasion of the band's 15th anniversary, the band was on tour at the end of 2014 / beginning of 2015 under the motto 15 years, two evenings, 63 songs . All of the band's songs were played on two consecutive evenings.

At the end of June 2015, Turbostaat recorded the instrumental parts for their sixth album in the Hansa recording studio . The sixth studio album Abalonia was released on January 29, 2016 on the German branch of the Belgian music label PIAS .

In 2018, during three concerts in Leipzig, the band's first live album, Nachtbrot, was recorded and released in early 2019 on the occasion of the band's twentieth anniversary. In the course of the release, singer Jan Windmeier stated that the band wanted to record their next studio album in May 2019 and that a release was planned for the beginning of 2020. This will be called Uthlande and will be published on January 17th, 2020. The songs "Rattenlinie Nord" (cf. Rattenlinie Nord ), "A beautiful blue" and " Hemmigstedt " were published in advance . The band was based on the sound of the early days, singer Jan Windmeier said in an interview with krachfink.de: "Each of us had the feeling that we wanted to make songs like before." The band re-recorded the album with the Berlin producer Moses Schneider .
