The Gaslight Anthem is an American rock band from New Brunswick . According to their own statements, the band was influenced by Bruce Springsteen as well as by punk rock bands like the Bouncing Souls . At Allmusic The Gaslight Anthem with are Hot Water Music and Jawbreaker compared.

The band was named after The Gaslight Cafe in New York, where u. a. Bob Dylan had appeared.

Band history

The Gaslight Anthem was founded in 2005. Her first album, Sink or Swim , was released in summer 2007 on the independent label XOXO Records. In May 2008 the EP Señor and the Queen followed. In Germany, both records were released via Gunner Records. The follow-up The '59 Sound was produced by Ted Hutt, a founding member of Flogging Molly , published by SideOneDummy and reached number 70 in the American album charts . On this album you can hear Chris Wollard from Hot Water Music as a guest singer. In June 2008 the band made it onto the cover of the British music magazine Kerrang , which carried the slogan The Best New Band You'll Hear In 2008! used. The album The '59 Sound was voted third among the 50 best records of 2008 by Visions magazine .

In 2010 The Gaslight Anthem appeared on the tour for their third studio album American Slang at the Hurricane Festival , Southside Festival , Highfield Festival and Area 4, among others . In autumn 2010 they also toured Europe with support from Chuck Ragan and Sharks . In 2011 they performed at the Centerstage at Rock am Ring and at the Vainstream Rockfest in Münster. On their tour in 2012 on the occasion of the release of the commercially extremely successful record Handwritten , they were accompanied by Blood Red Shoes and Dave Haus in Germany . Her fifth album Get Hurt was released on August 12, 2014.

On July 29, 2015, the band announced via Facebook that they would be taking an indefinite break after their European tour in August 2015 and that they would no longer perform together for the time being. The band members want to devote themselves to their solo projects for the future.

In January 2018, TGA announced that it would perform together again for the first time at the Governor's Ball in New York from June 1 to 3, 2018. For the tenth birthday of the album The 59 Sound , the Gaslight Anthem are playing a small tour with only ten concerts, including two exclusive Germany concerts in Cologne's Palladium.
