Brian Fallon (born January 28, 1980 in Red Bank , New Jersey ) is an American singer , songwriter and guitarist . He became known as the front man of the rock band The Gaslight Anthem .

Music genre

The hallmarks of his projects are his distinctive, rough voice and the song themes. Many songs are about hopeless romance and the longing for infinite freedom as well as the optimistic mood of the 50s and 60s in the USA. His music is predominantly folk rock , punk rock and indie rock , and he is often compared to Bruce Springsteen , John Mellencamp or Tom Petty . His solo album Painkillers is quieter than his other works and can be classified more in the areas of Folk Rock and Heartland Rock .

Career

Previous projects

Already at the age of 17 Fallon released a music cassette under the pseudonym No Release with the title The Coffeehouse Sessions , which was limited to 200 pieces. Four years later he recorded an EP with the band Amping Copper with the band name as the title. In 2004 he recorded the EP The American Music EP as part of the Cincinnati Rail Tie . His mother Debbie, who was part of a folk band in the 1960s, also played a backing singer on one of the six tracks. In the same year he founded the band This Charming Man with Michael Volpe, Chris Clementi and Michael LeBoeuf . With this line-up, they released the album Every Little Secret. A year later, Clementi and LeBoeuf left the band and were replaced by Benny Horowitz and Alex Levine.

The Gaslight Anthem

Main article: The Gaslight Anthem After Volpe also left the band, Fallon formed The Gaslight Anthem with the remaining band members and Alex Rosamilia . Here he achieved his international breakthrough. Until the break in 2015, they recorded the albums Sink or Swim , The '59 Sound , American Slang , Handwritten and Get Hurt .

Side projects

In 2011 he announced that he would go on tour with Ian Perkins, a technician of the band, as a duo called The Horrible Crowes . Together they released the album Elsie. In the same year he was on the revival tour with Dave home , Dan Adriano from Alkaline Trio and Chuck Ragan . Here the musicians sometimes played alone, sometimes together on an acoustic set, where they covered each other. In 2013 he played some concerts as part of the band Molly and the Zombies. Brian McGee from Plow United , bassist Catherine Popper and Randy Schrager, drummer for the Scissor Sisters , played with them. Although the band played their own pieces that Fallon had written, they never got a record deal or an album. These pieces were inspired by Bob Dylan 's album Highway 61 Revisited , according to Fallon . The band made five of these songs available as free downloads on the Internet.

Solo album

In September 2015, immediately after The Gaslight Anthem's announced break , he announced that he was working on a solo album. For this he had signed a contract with Island Records . The album was produced by Butch Walker, who produced albums by Frank Turner , Avril Lavigne and Fall Out Boy , among others . The first single A Wonderful Life had its radio premiere in December 2015. The album with the title Painkillers was released on March 11, 2016. Also part of his band are his former companions Ian Perkins, Catherine Popper and Alex Rosamilia.
