The Traumzeit Festival is an annual music festival in Duisburg . It was founded in 1997 and takes place in front of the backdrop of steel structures, boilers, pipes and chimneys of the disused ironworks Duisburg-Meiderich / Beeck . In the dark, today's Duisburg-Nord Landscape Park appears almost futuristic thanks to the lighting by the English artist Jonathan Park .

Change and crossing borders are the metaphors for the approach of the Traumzeit Festival concept. The merging of different music styles such as jazz , pop , world music , rock , electronics , new music or classical music , artists , projects and collaborations is part of the program.
history
Initially, the Traumzeit Festival was embedded in the Duisburger Akzente events , which have been taking place every May since 1978 . Due to the success, they established their own festival, which is held every year on the first weekend in July.
The festival was conceived by Wilfried Schaus-Sahm , who was the festival's artistic director up to and including 2008. In 2009 the Moers composer and musician Tim Isfort took over the artistic direction.
Until 2008 , the event focused on the genres of jazz and world music . Since 2009 the festival has made musical change, contemporary music, diversity and stylistic transgressions its program. Jazz , pop , world music , electronic music , indie rock , new music or classical music now stand side by side on an equal footing.
Performers such as Laurie Anderson , Juliette Gréco , Al Jarreau , Van Morrison , Herbie Hancock , Chick Corea , Beth Gibbons , Calexico , Lambchop , Rubén González and Paco de Lucía performed at the festival . Both Wilfried Schaus-Sahm and his successor Tim Isfort were able to present a number of new discoveries such as Kari Bremnes , Didier Squiban , Efim Jourist , Eric Lewis and Christian Scott .
In 2012 the festival did not take place due to unsecured funding. Even a rescue operation couldn't change that. After the separation from Tim Isfort, the artistic direction of the festival was taken over by the festival office director of the Duisburger Marketing Gesellschaft, Frank Jebavy, in addition to the commercial management and the festival took place again in 2013 with a greatly changed concept.
Venue
The area of the Landscape Park Duisburg-Nord has proven itself for the festival . The various event locations of the former ironworks such as the power station, casting hall, blower hall, pump hall and gasometer stage offer a unique backdrop that appears almost futuristic in the dark thanks to the spectacular light installations by the English artist Jonathan Park . The festival fills the more than 200 hectare industrial landscape with sound, light and video projections.
Accessibility
People with disabilities receive targeted support during the festival so that they can visit the festival without problems and that accessibility is largely guaranteed. There are also opportunities for people with and without handicaps to meet. A service point, an escort service, an encounter café and a site map with marking of the barrier-free routes provide information and support.

2011
In 2011 the Traumzeit Festival put the musical focus on the Southeast Asian country of Myanmar , better known as Burma or Burma . There were three traditional Burmese ensembles or artists, and there was also a special project, half of which consisted of Burmese and Europeans. In addition, the Myanmar topic was supplemented by a workshop and a lecture.
