Eric Robert Lewis (also ELEW , born May 13, 1973 in Camden , New Jersey ) is an American jazz rock and jazz musician ( piano , composition ) who is also successful as a film composer .

Live and act

Initially tutored by his mother and grandmother, Lewis began his career as a jazz pianist working with musicians such as Craig Bailey ( A New Journey , 1995), Wynton Marsalis ( Unforgiveable Blackness , 1996) and Elvin Jones in the 1990s . In the following years he also played with Cyrille Bugnon , Robin Eubanks , Cassandra Wilson , Lonnie Plaxico , Clark Terry , Jimmy Cobb , Marcus Printup , Herlin Riley , Ornette Coleman and Adam Niewood . From the 2000s he performed under the acronym ELEW and began to combine jazz piano with modern pop and rock music in his music . I.a. he also performed in front of Barack and Michelle Obama at the White House. He also composed film music and worked as a screenwriter, director and DJ. His music was used in the soundtrack of The Great Debaters (directed by Denzel Washington ), Girlfriends , 761st , I Want Someone to Eat Cheese With , Dark Country and Revival! . In the field of jazz, he was involved in 30 recording sessions between 1995 and 2006.
