Kai Schumacher
Kai Schumacher (born November 18, 1979 in Baden-Baden ) is a German pianist and composer . A special focus in his repertoire is on American piano music of the 20th and 21st centuries.
Life
Kai Schumacher received his first piano lessons at the age of five. In 1995, at the age of fifteen, he made his debut as a soloist with the Baden-Baden Philharmonic and performed the 2nd Piano Concerto by Dmitri Dmitrijewitsch Shostakowitsch . After graduating from high school in Hohenbaden Baden-Baden , he began studying at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen in the piano class of Prof. Till Engel, which he completed in 2009 with the concert exam "with distinction".
In 2009 his debut album was released by the record company WERGO , on which he wrote the variation cycle The People United Will Never Be Defeated! interpreted by the American composer Frederic Rzewski . The album received good reviews nationally and internationally and was awarded the star of the month by Fono Forum magazine . Kai Schumacher performed the work live a. a. In 2013 at an art campaign by Friedrich von Borries in Berlin and in 2015 at the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts . In 2013 his second album "Transcriptions" was released , on which he arranged songs from the genres grunge , heavy metal and indie rock for solo piano. With this album he not only appeared in classical concert halls , but also at pop festivals such as the Traumzeit Festival . In June 2015 Kai Schumacher released the album "Insomnia" with works by George Gershwin , John Cage , George Crumb , Brian Belet and Bruce Stark on Hänssler Classic . The release concert was held on 22 August 2015 Radial System V instead. On the album “Rausch” (2019), for the first time, there are exclusively Kai Schumacher's own compositions, which are influenced by both the sound worlds of the prepared piano and techno .
From 2010 to 2014 was Kai Schumacher keyboardist of Folk - Pop - band MobilEe .
