Brian Belet

Brian E. Belet (* 1955 in Aberdeen , Maryland ) is an American composer and music teacher.

Life

Brian Belet studied at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign , where he received his PhD in 1990 with a dissertation on James Tenney . He is a professor at San José State University, where he heads the Center for Research in Electro-Acoustic Music . In 2002 he was guest composer in residence at De Montfort University and at Dartington College of Arts in Great Britain. He is a member of the Society of Composers , the Society for Electro-Acoustic Music in the United States (SEAMUS), the Electronic Music Foundation and the International Computer Music Association .

Electroacoustic music is at the center of Belet's compositional work. He works in the field of algorithmic composition , live sound synthesis, computer improvisation and human-technology interaction as well as microtonal music . With Stephen Ruppenthal he performed his composition System of Shadows at the International Computer Music Festival in New York and at the Kyma International Sound Symposium in Vienna in 2010 . In the same year Sea Lion Mix and Remembering Allen were performed at the Electronic Music Southwest Festival and Remembering Allen at the Contemporanea Festival di Nuova Musica in Udine. With the Ensemble SoundProof (with Patricia Strange and Stephen Ruppenthal) Belet was invited to concerts and master classes at the University of Oregon , Portland State University and the Bellingham Electro-Acoustic Festival in 2010-11 .
