Zu is an Italian instrumental trio from Rome . The band, which has existed since 1999, is stylistically assigned to jazzcore , math rock and noise rock . The band members are: Luca Mai ( baritone saxophone ), Massimo Pupillo ( bass ) and Jacopo Battaglia ( drums ). The band released their 15th album on February 10th, 2009 and has given over 1000 concerts worldwide since its inception.

Zu has worked with a number of artists including Eugene Chadbourne ( guitar on The Zu Side of the Chadbourne and Motorhellington ), Mats Gustafsson ( saxophone on How to Raise an Ox ), Nobukazu Takemura (on Identification with the Enemy - A Key to the Underworld ), Mike Patton (voice and some live performances) and Ken Vandermark (saxophone on Igneo ).
