Massimo Pupillo (* 1969 in Ostia ) is an Italian fusion and improvisation musician (electric bass, double bass, composition).

Pupillo became known as the bassist of the jazz core formation Zu , which recorded 15 albums and numerous singles. He also worked with Thurston Moore , Jim O'Rourke , Mats Gustafsson , Paal Nilssen-Love , Terrie Ex , Katia Labèque , Uchihashi Kazuhisa , Ken Vandermark , Hamid Drake , DJ Olive , Otomo Yoshihide , Amy Denio , Fred Lonberg-Holm , Peter Brötzmann , Caspar Brötzmann , Damo Suzuki or Oren Ambarchi .
