The BV German newspaper Holding GmbH was founded in October 2005 with the investors group Veronis Suhler Stevenson International Ltd. (VSS) and Mecom Group to acquire the Berliner Verlag mit Berliner Zeitung and Berliner Kurier from the Georg von Holtzbrinck publishing group . The holding also owns BerlinOnline Stadtportal GmbH & Co. KG , operator of berlinonline.de and berlin.de, the website of the State of Berlin, as well as Berliner Verlag Beteiligungen GmbH , whose wholly owned subsidiary Tip Verlag GmbH & Co. KG runs the city magazine tip Berlin appears.

  • On January 27, 2006, the holding company bought Hamburger Morgenpost .
  • On March 9, 2007, the Mecom financial group took over the shares of Veronis, Suhler, Stevenson (VSS) in BV Deutsche Zeitungsholding. In return, VSS received a minority stake in Mecom.
  • On June 8, 2007, the holding company took over the Internet news portal “ Netzeitung ” from the Norwegian newspaper Orkla Media .
  • On January 12, 2009, BV Deutsche Zeitungsholding was sold to the Cologne-based media publisher M. DuMont Schauberg (MDS) for EUR 152 million . A little later, this passed 35 percent on to the Cologne-based Heinen Verlag GmbH, which until 1999 had published the Kölnische Rundschau , which has since been published by MDS . In this relationship, MDS and Heinen-Verlag (majority shareholder: Helmut Heinen ) now have a stake in PMB Presse- und Medienhaus Berlin GmbH & Co. KG, the owner of BV Deutsche Zeitungsholding . MDS is intertwined with Heinen-Verlag through complex equity investments. Horst Röper , head of the FORMATT Institute in Dortmund, has determined that the calculated capital share of MDS at BV Deutsche Zeitungsholding is 72 percent; only 28 percent stay with Heinen.
