Horst Röper

Horst Röper (born May 21, 1952 in Soest ) is a German journalist and media scientist . He was a co-founder in 1984 and has been the managing director of the media research institute FORMATT in Dortmund ever since.

Life

Röper began his journalistic activities in 1968, initially with daily newspapers. Since his traineeship at WDR in 1980 , he was increasingly active for television ( Glashaus series , ARD press criticism , politics current ), and also for magazines.

Until 1981 he studied political science and journalism at the University of Münster and journalism at the University of Dortmund with a diploma. He wrote his diploma thesis on the topic of electronic reporting. Forms and consequences of the new television production . He then worked at both universities.

Since 1984 he has been the managing director of the media research institute FORMATT in Dortmund, which he founded together with his former professor Ulrich Pätzold . Since 1994 he has also been involved in the training and further education of journalists.

Named by the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia , Röper has been a member of the Commission for Determining the Financial Requirements of Broadcasting Companies (KEF) since 2007 and is chairman of working group 3 dealing with the topic of program expenditure.

Works

Röper writes regularly in specialist journals about media technology , the media system, the economy of the media and media politics , in particular he deals with media concentration . He is the co-author of several books on electronic media and on the concentration of power and the lack of transparency of ownership in the German media market. He is also repeatedly represented in the daily and weekly media with articles on these topics and takes a position in interviews.
