Helmut Heinen

Helmut Heinen (born August 19, 1955 in Cologne ) is a German newspaper publisher . He is the publisher of the Kölnische Rundschau and was President of the Federal Association of German Newspaper Publishers (BDZV) from 2000 to 2016 .

Life

As the grandson of Reinhold Heinen and son of Heinrich Heinen, Helmut Heinen comes from a Cologne publishing house. After graduating from high school in Cologne, Friedrich-Wilhelm-Gymnasium , he studied mathematics. The mathematician is a managing partner of Heinen-Verlag GmbH and Kölnische Verlagsdruckerei GmbH. He is also the editor of the Kölnische Rundschau and the Bonner Rundschau .

From 1990 to 2000 Heinen was Deputy President of the Federal Association of German Newspaper Publishers (BDZV) and from May 2000 its President. Mathias Döpfner was elected as his successor in July 2016 .

In addition to his work at the BDZV, Heinen is the second deputy chairman of the newspaper publishers Association of North Rhine-Westphalia (ZVNRW) and a member of the plenary assembly of the Cologne Chamber of Commerce . There he works as chairman of the media committee. He is also a member of the Presidium of the Confederation of German Employers' Associations .

Since 2009, Helmut Heinen has held a 35 percent stake in PMB Presse- und Medienhaus Berlin GmbH & Co. KG, owner of BV Deutsche Zeitungsholding , through his majority ownership in Cologne-based Heinen-Verlag .

Since August 2016, Heinen has been Chairman of the Board of Management of the Cologne Cathedral Foundation , which is committed to preserving the cultural, art and church history as well as spiritual offerings in Cologne Cathedral.

In addition, Helmut Heinen has been Chairman of the Board of the German Foundation for World Population (DSW) since January 2020 .

In his capacity as BDZV president, Heinen wrote a comment shortly after the attack on Charlie Hebdo , which was published as a guest commentary in numerous newspapers.
