Erwin Ditzner (born Markus Stauder in Worms on May 5, 1960 ) is a German drummer .

Life

Ditzner began playing drums at the age of ten and received a classical training as a percussionist at the Wiesbaden Conservatory , which he ended after two years to undertake his first tours in the rock sector ( Guru Guru , Rif, Sanfte Liebe).

Since the early 1990s, he has devoted himself more and more to jazz . Concerts with musicians such as Peter Brötzmann , Karl Berger , Alfred Harth , Rudi Mahall and Johannes Bauer followed . Since then he has been involved in or responsible for more than 50 LP or CD productions and has appeared in television and radio productions for NDR , Arte , SWF , HR and BR. He toured Africa, Europe, North and South America and Asia.

As a snare player and co-founder of the Mannheim brass band Mardi Gras.bb (1992), he worked as a studio musician in all of the band's CD productions until 2007. He is known for reducing his drum kit; sometimes he only worked with his snare and bongos, for example with the Coleümes, which have been heard under the name Les Primitifs since 2011.

In 1998 the Coleümes traveled through Ecuador for four weeks in order to reach the people of Ecuador through the language of music. They were invited by the Detmold filmmaker Siegmund Thies and the Mannheim musician Astrid Pape. The result of the meeting of the musicians was the documentary film Reise ins Jahr 10.027 produced for ARTE and an equally successful visit to the Expo 2000 in Hanover.

Since 2008, after leaving Mardi Gras.bb, Ditzner founded the “Ditzner Lömsch Duo” with Lömsch Lehmann ( Lömsch Le Mans ). In 2008 the two released their debut album Schwoine on fixcel records and at the same time the first jazz ringtone CD entitled Ringtones. In October 2015 Ditzner Lömsch II "was released on vinyl and CD.

Furthermore, a CD production followed in 2009 with Arnim Töpel and Michael Herzer "Fa umme ... Mundart Grooves", which was nominated in the songs and songs category for the German Record Critics' Prize. This project is called "Töpel Kings". Further formations with which Erwin Ditzner can be seen and heard are: The “Ditzner Twintett” with the two twins Bernhard and Roland Vanecek on trombone and tuba. “Netnar Tsinim”, a quartet led by Matthias TC Debus on double bass and Alexandra Lehmler on saxophone; with Bernhard Vanecek on the trombone. The "Barbara Lahr Trio", with Bernhard Sperrfechter on guitar and Barbara Lahr , who plays and sings bass, Ditzner recorded the CD "Six String Call" in 2011, which was released by Skip Records .

“Das Blech” is a septet about the young trumpeter Stephan Stadtfeld, brother of the classical pianist Martin Stadtfeld. Ralph Mosch Himmler (trumpet), Joachim Lösch (trumpet), Bernhard Vanecek (trombone), Roland Vanecek (tuba) and Felix Fromm (trombone) also play in this formation. In 2011 the band "Coleümes" formed anew and is now called "Les Primitifs". Matthias Dörsam (reeds), Michael Herzer (double bass) and Laurent Leroi (accordion) are recording a new CD that was released in August 2011 under the title "Une histoire d'un amour". The title "La Mayo Mayonnaise" found its way into the soundtrack of the film Hans Dampf in 2013 .

At the international jazz festival Enjoy Jazz , which takes place once a year in Mannheim, Ludwigshafen and Heidelberg, Erwin Ditzner plays regularly with Rudi Mahall , Sebastian Gramss , Lömsch Lehmann and in 2010 with Marilyn Crispell , the experimental jazz pianist and performer-composer from Woodstock / NY , Aki Takase and Silke Eberhard . Also in 2011 Ditzner plays with Enjoy Jazz . Sebastian Gramss (bass,) Lömsch Lehmann (reeds) and Conny Bauer (trombone) play free, improvised music under the name “Are they out of danger” . In 2012 Ditzner again presented a free concert together with the Cologne bassist Sebastian Gramss. With his "Carte Blanche" of the festival, which he received from Rainer Kern , he invited the US guitarist Jeff Parker (Chicago). At Enjoy Jazz 2013 he performed with Nils Wogram, Sebastian Gramss and Alexander von Schlippenbach, with whom he is now also on the road in a duo. In May 2013 his solo record "Elements" (vinyl and CD) was also released by Frank Schindelbeck's fixcel records . Since then he can also be heard as a soloist at festivals and clubs. Since 2008 Erwin Ditzner has appeared repeatedly in productions of the Kevin O'Day Ballet. In 2010 Ditzner composed the piece "Karussell" together with Lömsch Lehmann, which was performed in the trilogy "Bang on it" in the 2011/12 season. The choreographer Dominique Dumais was the artistic director. Several pieces based on compositions by John King (New York) followed. In the 2012/13 season, Ditzner played the drums in the dance piece RAW. In 2019 Ditzner played a duo concert with pianist Chris Jarrett at the Enjoy Jazz Festival in the old fire station in Mannheim. The concert was recorded and also appeared on fixcel records in 2020. In the Corona crisis, due to the concert cancellation and being at home, Ditzner deals more and more with visual topics. On his YouTube channel he regularly publishes small film clips on topics that concern him. He films everyday events and whimsical things, creates compositions for them and cuts everything himself in his "home office". Seen here !!
