Nicola Hein

Nicola Leonard Hein (born December 15, 1988 in Düsseldorf ) is a German guitarist, composer and sound artist in the field of improvised music and free jazz .

Hein, who comes from Düsseldorf, studied jazz guitar , philosophy and German at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz . He works mainly in the Cologne improv scene such as in the band Blemishes (with Thomas Lumley and Constantin Herzog ), in the formations Tonverbrechung (with Elisabeth Fügemann , Sophie Reyer, Lukas Truniger), Eleganze (with Paul Hubweber , Elisabeth Fügemann) and with Niklas Wandt (Duo Anthropophagus II ), also with Paul Lytton , Etienne Nillesen , Robert Landfermann , Carl Ludwig Hübsch , Philip Zoubek , Matthias Muche , Udo Moll , Georg Wissel , Uli Böttcher , Ulrich Phillipp , Leonhard Huhn and Emilio Gordoa . In his freely improvised solo concerts, Hein explores the tonal possibilities of polyphonic playing on the guitar in order to expand the spectrum beyond the range of sounds that can be achieved using conventional playing techniques.
