Georg Wissel

Georg Wissel (* 1964 in Cologne ) is a German musician ( alto and tenor saxophone , clarinet ) of creative jazz and new improvisational music .

Live and act

Wissel spent his childhood and youth in Wanne-Eickel , where the music scene of the time shaped him. As a saxophonist, he gained experience in different styles of music from punk to jazz to gala performances. In the field of freely improvised music he worked with the London Improvisers Orchestra , Pöhl – Musik , SALZ , the Adam Noidlt Missiles by Frank Köllges and the Wuppertal ImprovisationsOrchester and maintains duos with Paul Lytton , Joker Nies and Tim O'Dwyer. He also played with Dusica Cajlan, George Cremaschi, Matthew Goodheart, Gunda Gottschalk , Lou Grassi , Carl Ludwig Hübsch , Paul Hubweber , Achim Krämer , Misha Mengelberg , Etienne Nillesen, Melvyn Poore and Alan Silva . He also performs with Nicolao Valiensis Banda Metafisica , Nicolas Simion , Norbert Stein's Pata on the Cadillac and the Multiple Joyce Orchestra . He has performed at festivals in Europe, South America, USA, Asia and Australia.

Since 1984 he has been teaching saxophone at the youth art school in Wanne-Eickel. Later he also led the music school's big band, which, under his leadership, took second place in the 1988 youth jazz state competition . Then he worked as a saxophone lecturer at the Theodor-Fliegner-Gymnasium in Düsseldorf, before working as a lecturer at the Open JazzHausSchule in Cologne since 1993 . In addition, he works as a workshop lecturer on school projects within the framework of the New and Improvised Music network funded by the Federal Cultural Foundation and has been a lecturer in musical group improvisation at the University of Cologne since 2019.
