Christoph Irmer (* 1958 in Herford ) is a German violinist in the field of new improvisation music .

Life

Irmer studied school music in Kassel from 1980 to 1985 , then violin at the Cologne-Wuppertal University of Music until 1990 . At documenta IX in Kassel, he was a member of the improvisation orchestra under the direction of Jon Rose , with whom he also went on tour. In 1994/95 he worked on Peter Kowald's project 365 days on site in Wuppertal, in 1996 he appeared at Drumming for Africa with Tony Oxley , Trevor Watts and others. In the same year he worked with Arvo Pärt at the Vinschgau Organ Summer . He also worked on dance theater projects such as Danza e musica in strada (South Tyrol 1996), the Butoh dance performance Prinzenrolle (Wuppertal 1997) and the dance theater piece Are you crazy (based on Heiner Müller ) by the TanzMusikTheater TMT4.2. (1998) with. Since 2000 he has been organizing the folding chair festival for free music and dance in Wuppertal.

Irmer is a permanent member of the London Improvisers Orchestra and the Wuppertal Improvisations Orchestra . He also works with the big band Supernova (around 2000 in the Ruhr area;), the improvisation orchestra Fineworks (since 2002), and the London Improvisers Orchestra (since 2004). He is also a member of the Statement Quintet (with Dominic Duval , Jay Rosen , Ursel Schlicht , Hans Tammen ) and the groups Canaries on the Pole (with Jacques Foschia , Georg Wissel , Mike Goyvaerts ) and Investigation Routine (with Klaus Treuheit , Günther Pitscheider ) .

He works in duo formations with the vocalist Mitch Heinrich , the pianist Agustí Fernández and the flutist Jane Rigler . In 2006 he performed at the Moers Festival with Gunda Gottschalk and other musicians . In the field of dance, his partners include Chrystel Guillebeaud and Andrés Corchero .

Irmer lives and works in Wuppertal .
