Dirk Darmstaedter (born February 22, 1965 in Hamburg ) is a German musician and songwriter.

biography

Dirk Darmstaedter came to Hamburg with his family from the United States at the age of 12 .

Darmstaedter's first band was called "JB and his Jupitors", in which he played together with Kai Breese, Jan Breese and one other member. In 1985 he began to write songs together with Christoph M. Kaiser . Until 1987 her band, The Jeremy Days , was joined by Louis C. Oberlander , Stefan Rager and Jörn-Christoff Heilbutt. Her first single Are You Inventive became a big hit in 1988, which was followed by a few others like Brand New Toy (number 11 in the German charts) and Julie Thru the Blinds . The debut album, which was released in 1988, sold over 150,000 copies. The band released another four studio albums, one live album, toured Europe and finally split in 1996.

Dirk Darmstaedter also appeared as an actor: 1997–1998 he was one of the main actors (David) in the musical Elixier (by Tobias Künzel and Künzel's wife Kati Naumann) in Leipzig - the play directed by Horst Königstein saw forty sold-out performances.

Together with Gunther Buskies, Darmstaedter founded the record label Mural Records in 2002 . Darmstaedter released four albums under the name Me and Cassity between 2002 and 2012, and in 2003 he also recorded a country album with Bernd Begemann . Darmstaedter has been publishing music under his own name since 2005. On October 1, 2010, he and Begemann took part in the Freddy Quinn classic How It Works every night in the Bundesvision Song Contest 2010 in Berlin for Lower Saxony , but only took last place there.

Dirk Darmstaedter has had his own label Beg Steal & Borrow since 2009, which has released his albums Twenty Twenty - 20 Years, 20 Songs · A Collection and Strange Companions , among others . In the summer of 2014 he founded the label Teaneck Records , where his album Before We Leave was released in September 2014 .
