He made his first appearance at the Monterey Jazz Festival in California in 2004, when his backing band was the school's best-of-band. After graduating from high school , Scott chose New York City as his adopted home.

His first album as a bandleader published Scott in 2006 and is called Rewind That , on which he eleven songs nine self- composed . A year later he worked on Prince 's album Planet Earth with a few songs. The hip-hop musician Mos Def and Randy Jackson picked Scott as guest musicians for live concerts. Jackson said of Scott, "The way he pushes the boundaries of what is possible is exactly what we all have always loved about Miles Davis ." Steven Soderbergh asked Scott to do one in the 2008 film A Tempting Game to take on small role alongside George Clooney and Renée Zellweger . Scott states Miles Davis as his most important influence, especially his consistent decision to only let the quintessence of his musical thoughts through.

Scott dedicated his second solo album Anthem (2007) to his hometown of New Orleans , which was devastated by Hurricane Katrina ; the songs on the album are called Litany Against Fear , Antediluvian Adaptian (Before the Great Flood) or The Uprising , for example . The oldest member of his back then band was 26 years old. Marcus Gilmore , the grandson of jazz drummer Roy Haynes , took over the drums. Aaron Parks took part on the piano . Other band members include guitarist Matt Stevens, Walter Smith III and bassist Luques Curtis . Alto saxophonist Louis Fouché and Esperanza Spalding also played on the album Anthem . The rapper Brother J also appeared on the bonus track Postdiluvial Adaptation . Scott opens his music to contemporary fusion elements from musical styles that he hears and appreciates himself.

His third album Live at Newport (2009) is a live recording of the Newport Jazz Festival from 2008. It is a reference to the Miles Davis concert that took place 50 years earlier at the same location. In February 2009 Scott gave several concerts in German-speaking countries on his European tour.

The 2010 CD Yesterday You Said Tomorrow expressly pays homage to Scott's role models from the 1960s in form and content; he names the John Coltrane Quartet , Miles Davis' second quintet, Bob Dylan , Jimi Hendrix and Charles Mingus . The album was produced by Rudy Van Gelder in the recording studio .

In 2010 Scott received the Paul Acket Award at the North Sea Jazz Festival .
