Messer is a post-punk band from Münster, founded in 2010 .

history

The Messer group from Münster was formed in 2010 and consists of Hendrik Otremba , Pogo McCartney, Pascal Schaumburg and Philipp Wulf. After the first small releases, the debut album Im Schwindel, produced by Christoph Bartelt, was released on This Charming Man label in 2012. As early as 2013, the band presented the follow-up work with Die Insichtbaren . This was co-produced by Tobias Levin , who is responsible for a large part of German-language pop music, especially under the Hamburg School label. Messer received wide media coverage for their second album, including Spex , Visions , taz and Spiegel Online dedicated their own articles to the album and the band.

In April 2014 the band traveled to China on behalf of the Goethe Institute and played concerts there in Qingdao, Nanjing and Shanghai.

In June 2015 the guitarist Pascal Schaumburg left the band.

style

The music by Messer, minimalist, often also dark post-punk with the lyrical German lyrics by Hendrik Otremba, is reminiscent of genre greats of the 1980s such as B. wrong colors . Despite this reference, Messer quickly developed their very own sound, which is primarily driven by the very concise bass of Pogo McCartney. Guitarist Pascal Schaumburg plays a very idiosyncratic, experimental guitar, which often sounds rather spherical and is reminiscent of the sound of a synthesizer. Since 2014, the band has also been playing live with the Hamburg drummer Manuel Chittka, who supports the rhythm section as a percussionist.
