Young Rebel Set is a British folk band from Stockton-on-Tees .
history
Singer Matty Chipchase first did a few solo shows and then got to know the two brothers, Mark and Luke Evans and Andrew and Chris Parmley, who had already made music together before. With their mutual friend David Coombe and the producer of the first recordings Paddy Jordan, the seven-member band was completed.
In August 2009, Young Rebel Set released the first single If I Was on the band's own label Our Broadcast . The British music press and various radio stations responded enthusiastically. The NME described the music as life-affirming shirt-sleeved skirt and invented the new genre of graft rock especially for the band , for The Guardian Young Rebel Set are raw and true :
Thees Uhlmann , singer of the band Tomte , discovered the band on the Internet and then went to a concert in Newcastle , where he got to know the band. Uhlmann organized some live performances in Germany. Although no album has yet been released, the concerts were extremely well attended. On August 6, 2010, the Hamburg indie label Grand Hotel van Cleef , of which Uhlmann is one of the founders, released the 12 ″ mini-LP Young Rebel Set , which contains the eight songs of the three singles that have so far only been available as download or on vinyl. In December 2010 the British performed again in Germany at the Fest van Cleef .
In November 2010, the single Measure of a Man was released as a harbinger for the debut album announced for spring 2011. The album Curse Our Love was released on May 27, 2011. The single Lion's Mouth was released on May 13, 2011 in advance . Another tour followed in June, which also included appearances at the Hurricane and Southside festivals .
The second album Crocodile was released on September 20, 2013 and September 30, 2013, after the preliminary single The Lash of the Whip had already been released. The album debuted at number 88 in the German album charts. It was recorded in Scotland, with producer Paul Savage . Extensive tours in Europe followed. In March 2014, the second single Tuned Transmission was released. The video premiere of the next single, Yesca & The Fear , followed on April 22nd .
The band announced the death of singer and guitarist Matthew "Matty" Chipchase on December 2, 2019.
