Reckoning Song ( dt. :, Billing song ') is a song of Israeli folk-rock - musician Asaf Avidan and his band The Mojos . The piece is from their debut album The Reckoning , but only became better known after a remix by the German DJ Wankelmut .

Creation and artwork

The song was written by Asaf Avidan. The single was also arranged, mixed and produced by Avidan, but in collaboration with Ori Winokur. Mastering was done by Kevorkian Mastering in New York City , under the direction of Fred Kevorkian. The song was recorded in the Ogen Studios in Kibbutz ( Israel ) under the direction of Winokur. The song was first released under the record label Telmavar Records, later under the record label Chrysalis Records , Fine. and Four Music released. On the cover of the maxi single - next to the artist and the song title - a mountain landscape can be seen. The cover picture was shot by Manuel Ferrigato and edited by Zentralberlin.

Publication and promotion

The first release of Reckoning Song took place in Israel in 2008 as an album release . Four years later, the German DJ Wankelmut released a remix of the song under the title One Day / Reckoning Song (Wankelmut Remix) . The remix version was first published via SoundCloud in January 2012. Due to the great reception, the release as a single followed six months later on June 4, 2012. Initially, the piece was only available as a single download. On June 29, 2012, a digital maxi single was released , which included two other versions of the song. On August 3, 2012, a physical sound carrier was released in Germany, Austria and Switzerland . The physical maxi single is a 2-track single that includes a "club mix" and the radio version of the song. In addition, various remix singles, EPs and vinyl records were released regionally for promotional purposes, all of which differ in the number and selection of their B-sides .

In order to promote the song, a live appearance followed on the late night show Inas Nacht im Erste .

While traveling in the United States, Wankelmut heard the acoustic track Reckoning Song by Asaf Avidan & the Mojos, which inspired him to produce the track One Day . In addition to the “catchy character” of the original, he particularly liked the “complexity” that the title “settles with a passing love”, but “can be understood very positively at the same time”.

Avidan found out through Facebook that Wankelmut was making a remix of his Reckoning Song . At first he was against the adaptation of his piece, Wankelmut had made the remix without his permission. Fickleness asked Avidan via Facebook if he liked the remix, who replied: "Sounds pretty, but doesn't really correspond to my style." Two months later, this remix began to spread. In the meantime he has accepted that his songs can be interpreted in very different ways. It would not make you worse. Six years after the remix was released, Avidan affirmed in an interview with Allgemeine Zeitung that this was not his kind of music. At the same time, Avidan answered the question of whether the remix was a curse or a blessing with the following words: “Everything has its good and bad sides. This remix was very important for my career, it brought a lot of people to my music. ”He thinks a lot about which words he uses for his lyrics and how he arranges them. The biggest problem in the remix is ​​that Wankelmut has created a version without his consent in which the same two lines are repeated over and over again.

The music video for One Day / Reckoning Song (Wankelmut Remix) premiered on June 22, 2012 on Four Music's YouTube channel . It shows a small group of three people walking through a city and partying in different locations. Again and again lewd scenes can be seen between the three . The total length of the video is 3:31 minutes. Directed by Daniel Franke and Sander Houtkruijer. To date, the video has over 154 million views on YouTube (as of March 2015).

One Day / Reckoning Song (Wankelmut Remix) reached number one in the singles charts in Germany and stayed in position one for seven weeks, 16 weeks in the top 10 and 51 weeks in the charts. In Austria the single also reached the top of the chart and stayed there for a total of six weeks, as well as 13 weeks in the top 10 and 34 weeks in the charts. In Switzerland, the single also reached number one and was able to stay at the top for a total of seven weeks, 17 weeks in the top 10 and 48 weeks in the charts. In the United Kingdom, the single reached position 30 in seven chart weeks.
