Home is a song by the Canadian singer Michael Bublé and written by Bublé himself with Amy Foster-Gillies and his pianist Alan Chang. The single Home was released in 2005 along with the B-side Song For You . Home can be found on Bublé's second album It's Time and has since been covered several times, including by the boy band Westlife .

Michael Bublé

Michael Bublé interpreted his first own composition for the first time on the album It's Time ; the piece was also released as a single Home . The album "It's Time" reached number 2 in the German album charts thanks to the success of the single. The single itself reached number 33 in Great Britain, number 1 in the Adult Contemporary Charts and number 55 in the German single charts.

Arrangement and instrumentation

Randy Napoleon and Michael Bublé at the concert in Los Angeles

Both the rhythm and the string arrangement are by David Foster , who produced the version with Humberto Gatica, and William Ross (also known as Bill Ross). Foster plays the piano herself (Foster's daughter Amy is co-author of the title). Guitarists Brian Green (electric jazz guitar) and Dean Parks (acoustic guitar) play a bigger role in the album version. In contrast to the Westlife version, Bublé's version leaves a more "acoustic impression", which is primarily caused by the cast of grand piano, strings, discreetly restrained drum set, the acoustic guitar, the percussions by Rafael Padilla and the double bass (Brian Bromberg). The character of this version of the song corresponds to the typical 'Bublé sound' in the tradition of American crooners . The drums (Vinnie Colaiuta) are highlighted in the “International Pop Mix”. In this remix the acoustic guitar is omitted and the intro is only played by the piano. Michael Bublé's girlfriend at the time, Debbie Timuss, provided the background vocals in the chorus .

In the live version of Caught In The Act , which was recorded at the Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles , the acoustic guitar is omitted, Randy Napoleon mainly plays the part Brian Green from the album version as well as the solo.

The Westlife version reached number 2 in the Irish and Taiwanese singles charts and number 3 in the UK singles charts.

Trivia

As part of the Foster and Friends Concerts (the producer and pianist David Foster performs with many of his artists) there was a winking encounter between Bublé and Blake Shelton in May 2008, who released the song in February of the same year and thus also made it into the country charts 1 reached. After a humorous introduction, the two singers, supported by Foster on the piano and accompanied by a band and a string ensemble, interpret their common hit in front of an audience in Las Vegas.
