biography
Cecil Womack, younger brother of Bobby Womack , met his future wife Linda in 1961 when she was only eight years old. She is the daughter of Sam Cooke , who was then just Cecil and Bobby Womack and her brothers Curtis, Harry and Cedric as The Valentinos for his own label under the contract had taken. When Bobby Womack married Sam Cooke's widow Barbara, she became his stepdaughter and also had an affair with him.
Both her love story and her collaboration with Cecil Womack began in the early 1970s when he and Linda were hired as songwriters by the famous Philly soul label Philadelphia International Records . You wrote songs for The O'Jays , Patti LaBelle and Teddy Pendergrass , among others . After their marriage in 1979 they started to work on their own concept. The first result was the LP Love Wars (1984), which was particularly well received in England . Womack & Womack mixed traditional styles of black music culture such as gospel and rhythm 'n' blues with white adult contemporary pop. This was followed by the albums M. USC Man (1985) and Starbright (1986), with which they continuously refined their style. However, critics criticized the technical overproduction.
In 1988, Womack & Womack were able to release the LP Conscience (DE # 5, UK # 4), the hit singles Teardrops (DE # 2, UK # 3) and Celebrate the World (DE # 22, UK # 19), which was celebrated as a masterpiece celebrate greatest successes. In her native USA, however, her records were not very well received. In 1991 the album Family Spirit was released , which could not repeat the success of Conscience and was dismissed by some critics as "unimaginative glossy pop".
In 1993 the album Transformation to the House of Zekkariyas was released ; Linda and Cecil had previously given themselves the Nigerian names Zeriiya and Zek (kariyas). Womack & Womack released other records under the names The House of Zekkariyas , Poetry in Motion and Zek . The duo later settled in Africa .
