Changing is a drum and bass song by the British producer duo Sigma from 2014. It is sung by Paloma Faith .

Creation and distribution

Changing was released on September 14, 2014 as the third pre-release single from Sigma's debut album Life . In addition to Cameron Edwards and Joe Lenzie from Sigma, the TMS team (Tom Barnes, Ben Kohn and Peter Kelleher) were involved as producers. The single was created in collaboration between the British labels 3Beat Productions and All Around The World and was distributed by Universal Music. There is also a 12-inch vinyl single from Sigma's own label Life Recordings.

"Sigmas VIP Remix" (with additional vocals by Stylo G) and remixes by the bands Klingande , Purple Disco Machine, Majestic, Naxxos and Zoo Station were released at the same time as the original title . A newly arranged version of Changing can also be found on Paloma Faith's third studio album A Perfect Contradiction in the Outsiders Edition (Sony 2014).

Commercial win

Like the previously released single from Sigma Nobody to Love was also Changing a number 1 hit in the UK . The song only stayed there for a week and stayed in the UK charts for 34 weeks. For Paloma Faith it was the first time that she could take the top British position. Due to the good sales, the single reached platinum in the UK, Australia and New Zealand. Otherwise she was particularly successful in Belgium (4th place). In Germany the song was in the charts for five weeks and reached the highest position at 87. In Austria it came to 32nd place. Since 2017 the song has been the title song of the German Vodafone Giga-Bit Werbung.

content

Changing is about the singer's desire to change after living in the same city for too long under circumstances that are not good for her. So it says in the refrain: “Everything is changing and I've been here for too long, going through the same things. I've been hurting too long, got to move on. ”(Translated:“ Everything is changing and I've been here too long, I'm going through the same things. I've been hurt too long, have to move on. ”). The song consists of two stanzas, each followed by the chorus and a hookline , as well as a final outro .

The track is fast (175 BPM ) and is classified as drum and bass by its beats . But it also contains elements of classical music (strings), gospel and soul . An editor of drumandbass.de judged that Changing sounds "like a 70s soul hymn in a drum & bass guise".

Video

The music video for Changing was directed by Craig Moore, an employee of the London production company Familia. It shows Paloma Faith, who is driven through the streets of Little Havana (Miami) in a 1959 Chevy Impala and observes various locals in everyday scenes. At the end she meets Cameron Edwards and Joe Lenzie from Sigma.
