Sun Goes Down ( Engl. "The sun goes down") is a song of the German DJ Robin Schulz , in cooperation with the British pop singer Jasmine Thompson . The track is the fourth single from his debut album Prayer .

Creation and artwork

The song was written jointly by Tom Havelock and Robin Schulz, the latter also produced the song. The mix was done by the German producer trio Junkx (consisting of: Dennis Bierbrodt, Jürgen Dohr and Guido Kramer). The arrangement was made under the direction of Adam Lunn. The single was released under the music labels Tonspiel and Warner Music Group and distributed by Universal Publishing Production Music .

A total of three different cover images appeared for Sun Goes Down . On the cover of the digital single, only Schulz can be seen standing in front of a black background. That of the maxi single is in blue and red and shows - in addition to artist names and song titles - the interconnected upper bodies of Schulz and Thompson. The cover picture of a remix EP is similar to that of the maxi single, only the color red has been replaced by a light blue.

Publication and promotion

The first release of Sun Goes Down was made as a digital release on 15 September 2014. The publication of a physical audio medium followed four and a half weeks later, on 17 October 2014 in Germany, Austria and Switzerland . The maxi-single is available as a 2-track single and contains, in addition to the radio version, an “extended version” of Sun Goes Down as a B-side . On October 24, 2014 a remix EP with a total of five remix versions of the song was released.

In order to promote the song, there followed, among other things, live appearances in prime time during the ultimate chart show on RTL , where Schulz and Thompson appeared together for the first time live on German television and during a Schulz medley at the ECHO Pop 2015 award ceremony . The piece was the official hit for the CONCACAF Gold Cup 2015 in July 2015 . In the summer of 2015, Sun Goes Down was the theme song for the RTL show Hartwichs 100! Daniel tests the Germans .

Among other things, you can see how Schulz prepares for an appearance and denies it, or how Thompson meets with her friends. The total length of the video is 2:54 minutes. Directed by Anna-Lilja Häfele. To date, the video has over 403 million clicks on YouTube (as of June 2020).

A 360-degree app was also released when the Sun Goes Down music video was released. The free app allows viewers to view the video from different angles. In the video, viewers can change their perspectives as desired and thus look in different directions while the action continues in the video. It is the first music video in the world to use this 360-degree technology. The music video received an Epica Award for this.

Sun Goes Down reached position two in the single charts in Germany and was in the top 10 for 13 weeks and in the charts for 50 weeks. In the German airplay charts , the single reached the top position for a week . In Austria the single reached position three and stayed in the top 10 for a total of eight weeks and in the charts for 29 weeks. In Switzerland , the single also reached position three and stayed in the top 10 for 16 weeks and in the charts for 35 weeks. In the United Kingdom , the single reached position 94 in the charts in one week and was only placed in the charts after the successor single Headlights . The single was placed in the German annual single charts of 2014 at position 29, in Austria at position 61 and in Switzerland at position 53. In 2015, Sun Goes Down was placed in the German single annual charts at position 58 and 47 in Switzerland.

For Schulz as an interpreter, this is the fourth chart success in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. It is his third top 10 success in all DA-CH countries. As a producer, it is his second chart success in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. It is his first top 10 success in all DA-CH countries. As a composer it is his first chart and top 10 success in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, and his second in the United Kingdom. For Thompson it is the first chart success in Germany, Austria and Switzerland and, after Ain't Nobody, the second in the United Kingdom.
