Alane ( dual for 'love song') is a song by the French - Cameroonian music duo Wes . The piece is the second single from their debut album Welenga .

Creation and artwork

The piece was written by the two Wes members Wes Madiko and Michel Sanchez . Sanchez was responsible for the mixing, the arrangement and the production.

On the front cover of the single you can only see Madiko, sitting on a rock, next to the artist name and song title. As seen from the observer, he has his head turned to the right, while the wind is blowing in his face. The photograph comes from the Algerian photographer Yan Leuvrey. An alternative front cover only shows Madiko's face on a yellow background. Parts of the face are blurred, like a reflection of water. The artwork comes from the French graphic designer Laurent Edeline.

Publication and promotion

Alane first appeared as part of Wes 'debut album Welenga on November 4, 1996. In the same year, an official remix version by US DJ Tony Moran was released in France as the B-side of Wes' debut single Awa Awa . Various additional promo singles were also released on CD and vinyl . As B-sides, all maxi singles and promotional sound carriers only contain different remix versions of the title. On September 2, 1997, an official remix single with remixed versions by the American DJ Todd Terry was released.

The single was released by the following music labels: Epic Records , Saint George and Une Musique. The piece was published by Michel Sanchez Music and Sony Music Publishing , and distributed by Sony Music .

Wana wé ndé lambo (hé hé hémentourék)
He hi yé yé yé. "

- Refrain, original excerpt

The lyrics to Alane are written in dual language and, according to Madiko, translates into German as "love song". The music was composed by Michael Sanchez, the lyrics by Wes Madiko. Musically, the song moves in the realm of dance pop and world music . The tempo is 122 beats per minute . The key is A flat major . In terms of content, Alane is about the strong feeling of being in love.

The song is based on two verses, a chorus , a bridge and an outro . The song begins with the first verse, which is followed by a so-called "pre-chorus" before the own refrain follows. The same process is repeated with the second stanza. After the second chorus, there is a bridge that consists only of the repetitive line "Né ma ka ni kaso, né ma pa ni kaso, né ma pa sé pa". The bridge was followed by the refrain for the third time before the song ends with the outro. The outro consists of the same line of song as the bridge. The main vocals of the song are from Madiko.

Music video

The music video for Alane premiered in the UK in May 1997 . You can see three different scenes, which always alternate. In the first scene Madiko can be seen singing the song while on a rock. The second scene shows a woman (played by Myriem Oubaida) posing in front of a waterfall. The third scene shows a dance group dancing to the song as a group or individually. The choreography comes from the American dancer Mia Frye. The total length of the video is 3:15 minutes. The French director Philippe Gautier directed. Creation and publication

In 2020 the German DJ Robin Schulz re-recorded the song, although he did not change the lyrics, but remixed the music. Schulz described the piece as one of his "favorite songs" that "everyone" would know. There aren't many titles as timeless as Alane . The piece immediately puts you in a good mood and is so special just because of the language. For Schulz, it was important for this new edition that the original singer Wes Madiko gave his consent and re-recorded the piece. Madiko was enthusiastic about the new version, according to his own statements, he was crying with joy in the recording studio. In addition to the original authors, this version also lists Daniel Deimann, the producer quartet Junkx (consisting of: Dennis Bierbrodt, Stefan Dabruck, Jürgen Dohr and Guido Kramer) and Robin Schulz. All authors were responsible for the lyrics and the composition, with Madiko only involved in the text and Sanchez only in the composition. The instrumentation of the keyboards, the production and the programming were done by Junkx and Schulz. The producer quartet was also responsible for the mixing and engineering. The piece was mastered by Monoposto Mastering, under the direction of Michael Schwabe. As with the original, the main vocals come from Madiko, Schulz is only involved in the production.

Alane was released on June 19, 2020 for download and music streaming . The single was released as a single track under the Warner Music label , which was also responsible for distribution. On the front cover of the single - in addition to the artist name and song title - the face of a girl can be seen from the side.

Music video

The music video for Alane premiered on June 19, 2020 on YouTube. You can see animation figures and people of different origins who dance to the song in different places, which is based on the original from 1997. The choreography comes from the Berlin dancer Daniel Asamoah. In terms of content, the video should reflect joy, love, diversity and togetherness in music. It shows 30 different dancers in twelve cities, on five different continents, including Madiko in one scene. The total length of the video is 3:23 minutes. As with the Robin Schulz music videos All This Love , Rather Be Alone and In Your Eyes (Robin Schulz Lied) , Robert Wunsch again directed. To date, the video has over 5.6 million views on YouTube (as of July 2020).
