Wes Madiko (born January 15, 1964 in Motaba , † June 25, 2021 ) was a Cameroonian singer. He became world famous with ex- Deep Forest member Michel Sanchez through his hit Alane under the name Wes . This was number 1 in the charts for 10 weeks in France alone.

Wes Madiko was born on January 15, 1964 in a small village called Motaba and grew up in poor conditions. According to his own account, he got to know his grandfather's devotion to music. In 1977 Madiko became the leader of a local music group, the "Kwa Kassi", with whom he made musical beginnings. When the group broke up, he devoted himself to social work and traveled to Lille to look after children. In 1987 the group reunited. When they were seen by European tourists at one of their village concerts, it was the trigger for Madiko's music career.

After his father and brother died, he stopped making music for a while. In 1992 Madiko began giving concerts again and traveled to Atlanta in the United States . In a music store in Lille Madiko met Michel Sanchez , the ex-member of Deep Forest, with whom he later released the single Alane .

On June 25, 2021, he died after an operation of complications from a nosocomial infection .

Wes Madiko signed a record deal with Universal France for the first time and released his album Welenga with Michael Sanchez . They gave concerts around the world and their hit Alane was named Summer Hit of the Year by French TV station TF1 . In France, Wes Madiko and Deep Forest was at number 1 in the charts for 10 weeks with the hit Alane , his best result in his musical career. They celebrated further successes in Austria, Belgium and the Netherlands, where the song was also a number one hit; in Sweden the song reached number 19 and in Switzerland number 4, in Germany number 2.
