Iveta Mukuchyan ( Armenian Իվետա Մուկուչյան , born October 14, 1986 in Yerevan , Armenian SSR , USSR ) is an Armenian singer , actress and model .

life and career

Iveta Mukuchyan lived in Yerevan and went to kindergarten there until the family moved to Germany in 1992 . There she attended the Catholic Sankt Ansgar School in Hamburg from 1998 to 2006 . In 2009, on the advice of her parents, she returned to Armenia in spite of all adversities, where she studied jazz singing at the State Conservatory in Yerevan.

2009–14: Hay Superstar & The Voice of Germany

In 2010 she took part in Hay Superstar , the Armenian counterpart to Deutschland sucht den Superstar , and came in fifth. In 2012 she returned to Germany and took part in the second season of The Voice of Germany . There she sang Loreen's Euphoria in the "Blind Auditions" , after which Xavier Naidoo became her coach. In the "Battle Round" she sang the song Many Rivers to Cross by Jimmy Cliff with two other candidates , whereupon she was one of Naidoo's eight live show participants. In the first live show, she was very narrowly defeated by another candidate.

In December 2012 she was voted the sexiest Armenian in El Style magazine. In the same year she sang on producer Lazarro's single Freak , which caused a lot of reaction in the Armenian media.

2015–16: Eurovision Song Contest

With the song LoveWave , written by Stephanie Crutchfield, Lilith Nawasardjan and Lewon Nawasardjan, she represented her home country Armenia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 in Stockholm and qualified for the final with 2nd place in the first semifinals. In the final she finished 7th with 249 points.

In the semifinals, she held the flag of the controversial Nagorno-Karabakh Republic in the camera, whereupon she was warned by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). If there had been another violation, Armenia would have been disqualified.
