Emma Bedschanjan ( Armenian Էմմա Բեջանյան ; born April 12, 1984 in Yerevan ) is an Armenian singer who performs under the stage name Emmy . She represented her home country at the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 in Düsseldorf .

biography

Bedschanjan comes from a musical family - her mother is a singer and producer, her father († 2011) was a jazz pianist - so she came into contact with music at an early age. In 1993 she recorded her first song Hajastan (Eng. "Armenia"), for which a music video was shot. In the following years she toured the United States as a member of the Hajer girls' group . She also won many international prizes in Eastern Europe, partly solo and partly with Hajer.

In 2010 she took part in the Armenian qualification for the Eurovision Song Contest for the first time, but the song Hey (Let Me Hear You Say) , which she performed with the rapper Mihran, only came second behind the winner Eva Rivas . Previously, there were rumors that Armenian television had nominated the duo without public selection. These were based on a YouTube video that had been uploaded from the “mihrantv” channel.

In December 2010, a press conference on Armenian TV confirmed that Emmy would sing for Armenia at the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest . As with Siruscho in 2008, she performed several songs at a later public preliminary decision, from which the contribution Boom Boom was selected for the international final round. On May 10, 2011, she was eliminated in the first ESC semi-final in Düsseldorf.

Emma Bedschanjan is known in Armenia as a “pop princess” and “icon”. She speaks Armenian , English and Russian .
