Athena Manoukian

Athena Manoukian ( Greek Αθηνά Μανουκιάν Athiná Manoukián ; Armenian Աթենա Մանուկեան Atena Manukjan ; born May 22, 1994 in Athens ) is a Greek singer of Armenian origin. She should represent Armenia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 with the song Chains on You . The competition had to be canceled on March 18, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic .

Career

In 2007 Manoukian took part in the talent show This Is What's Missing , an international TV production by Alpha Television Network Greece, and won first prize. In the following year she took part in the Greek preliminary decision for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2008 with the song To fili tis Aphroditis , with which she reached seventh place.

In 2011 Manoukian released her first single Party Like a Freak , which became very successful in Greece and was nominated twice at the Video Music Awards. The second single I Surrender followed a year later, and Na les pos m'agapas a few months later . Manoukian received a gold record for Party Like a Freak , I Surrender and Na Les pos m'agapas .

With the release of the single XO 2014, which was released by Warner / Chappell and Max Music Scandinavia, Athena Manoukian achieved another great success. At the Armenian Pulse Awards she won the Best Song in English category . She also won the European Song Contest in Armenia with a total of 122 votes.

Manoukian also works as a songwriter. In 2017 she composed both the music and the lyrics for the song Palia mou agapi , which was sung by Helena Paparizou , the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2005 . With the song sold over 12,000 times, Manoukian went platinum.

In 2018 Manoukian took part in the 15th season of X Factor UK , but dropped out in the boot camp.

On February 15, 2020 Athena Manoukian Depi Jewratessil 2020 won , the Armenian preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest. So she should represent Armenia with her song Chains on You in May 2020 in Rotterdam , where she should compete in the second semifinals. The competition had to be canceled.
