Kokoro Kageura

Kokoro Kageura ( Japanese 影 浦 心 Kageura Kokoro ; * December 6, 1995 ) is a Japanese judoka . In 2016 he became Asian heavyweight champion.

Athletic career

Kokoro Kageura finished third in the Japanese U21 championships in 2015. In 2016 he defeated the Uzbek Abdullo Tangriyev in the final of the Asian Championships in Tashkent . At the end of 2016 he reached the final of the Grand Slam tournament in Tokyo and then lost to his compatriot Takeshi Ojitani . In 2017 Kageura won the Grand Prix tournament in Düsseldorf. At the Japanese championships he finished second behind Takeshi Ojitani. In August 2017 he won the Universiade in Taipei . At the 2017 World Championships in the open class, Kageura lost to Belgian Toma Nikiforov in the semi-finals , and lost to Takeshi Ojitani in the battle for bronze. After a third place at the Grand Slam tournament in Tokyo at the end of 2017, Kageura won the Grand Slam tournament in Paris in early 2018 when he defeated the South Korean Kim Sung-min in the final . At the end of 2018, he finished third in the Grand Slam tournament in Osaka, which replaced Tokyo in 2018 and 2019. In 2019, Kageura finished third in both Paris and Osaka.

At the Grand Slam tournament in Paris 2020, he defeated the French Teddy Riner in the round of 16 , who had previously been unbeaten in 154 fights since 2010. In the further course of the tournament, Kagerura beat the Russian Inal Tassojew and the Brazilian Rafael Silva . In the final in Paris Kageura was defeated by the Dutchman Henk Grol .
